There are no pre-requisite skills required for this class, so the skill range may vary greatly. Children in this age range are still highly motivated by fun and love to play and pretend. While they are interested in learning gymnastics, they are still developing confidence in their skills. They need opportunities in which they can experience success.

-To accommodate the variations in skill level, instructors are trained to provide individualized instruction so that every child is challenged and successful.

- Class activities (warm-ups, obstacle courses, etc) are designed to build strength, coordination and skill level.

- Playful, fun-based themes are periodically implemented.

Class length is 60 minutes.

The average 5-6 year old is very comfortable and confident in a structured class setting. At this age, the social aspect takes on a more important role as they become increasingly aware of each other and begin to compare themselves to and motivate their peers. This results in very "coachable" children who are able to follow complex directions, understand detailed and technical instruction and possess a noticeable eagerness to learn. Physically, the average 5-6 year old demonstrates a greater degree of body control, paving the way for more advanced gymnastics skills.

- Because of the children's ability to understand more technical instruction, combined with their eagerness to learn, this program becomes more focused on learning gymnastics skills.

- Elements of the Grade School program are periodically implemented to further challenge the children - both physically and mentally.

- More challenging gymnastics skills build strength, agility, coordination, and confidence.

Children in this age group are now displaying marked growth in their social, emotional and physical self-confidence and self-esteem. They are able to handle more complex directions and have noticeably longer attention spans. Physically, they have mastered most all of the basic locomotor movements, including skipping. Because of their movement experience, they are noticeably stronger, more agile, more coordinated, and have a broad base of gymnastics skills. This sets the stage for considerable skill growth in gymnastics.

- Tumbling skills, preceded by locomotor movements, are introduced and mastered (galloping, cartwheels, run-jump-forward roll, etc)

- Multiple skills are taught simultaneously, reinforcing the children's ability to handle more complex directions.

- More challenging gymnastics skills help children become stronger, more agile, more coordinated, and more self-confident.

At this age, children are ready to make a huge leap - participating in a structured class without parents. Developing a strong sense of self-confidence and eliminating the fear of failure are paramount. Having discovered the joys of independnce, they're eager to "do what the big kids do". But they still learn best through play - "hands-on" and movement activities. Their learning environment must be one in which structure, learning, movement, and play can co-exist together.

- Socialization activities teach children how to function in a group, listen and follow directions, communicate with others, share, and take turns.

- Activities focused on emotional development build comfort in a group (without the parent), encourage risk taking and help children deal with success and failure.

- "Circuit" format ensures continual movement and minimuzes waiting.

- Themes and theme-related music make each class a fun, learning adventure.

- More challenging, developmentally appropriate gymnastics skills build strength, spatial awareness, balance, overall body coordination, and self-confidence.

- "Free play and exploration" are incorporated into the learning time on the gynastics equipment.

- Children learn and perform gymnastics routines for the parents during Showtime Week.

Children in this age group are highly socialized and have an increasing ability to follow more complex directions. As their sense of independence and confidence soars, they are on the cusp of becoming self-sufficient with only an instructor. They are able to perform more complex locomotor skill variations, gymnastics skills and beginning sports skills as they increase their strength, speed and coordination.

- Periodically, more structured activities, such as group games or activities, are performed without parents. This challenges the children's ability to follow a set of directions and to function and work together in a group without parental support. This helps prepare the children for the 3-4 year old class: a structured class without parents.

- Group activities incorporate fundamental sports skills such as kicking, throwing, catching, and striking.

- New, more challenging developmentally appropriate gymnastics skills build strength, spatial awareness, balance, overall body coordination, and self-confidence.

Class length is 45 minutes.
Children in this age group are on the move - quicker, stronger and faster. They're ready to learn more complex movements in the "vertical world": introductory sports skills, locomotor skills with perceptual challenges, jumping off raised platforms onto their feet, creative movement challenges, and beginning tumbling skills. These toddlers also begin to develop a gerater understanding of "self" and experience feelings of pride, confidence, embarrassment, and independence. They are also becoming great users of language, speaking and understanding more clearly. With their newfound sense of independence, they are more interested in following directions and doing things by themselves.

- Warm-up and group activities incorporate animal movements, tumbling skills, sports skills, and motor perceptual challenges.

- Safe risk-taking opportunities and success-oriented activities that children can perform on their own establish a strong foundation of self-confidence.

- Children are given more opportunities to listen and follow directions.

- New, more challenging developmentally appropriate gymnastics skills build strength, spatial awareness, balance, overall body coordination, and self-confidence.

Class length is 45 mins.
By this age, most children are moving - walking or soon to be. Whether "vertical" or still "horizontal", children now have teh ability to explore their environment and, in the process, can learn to problem solve, take risks and establish a sense of independence. They are also beginning to speak, enjoy being around other children and can start following simple directions. Their increased dexterity, strength and more proportionate bodies allow them to learn and perform more advanced physical skills.

- Gymnastics equipment creates opportunities for exploration, problem solving and risk taking.

- More advanced, developmentally appropriate gymnastics skills and locomotor activities (running, galloping, jumping) develop strength, body and spatial awareness and balance.

- Group activities that inforporate simple sets of directions and introduce new manipulative equipment develop listening skills, group cooperation and dexterity.

Class length is 45 mins.
At this age, the average infant has an awareness of his environment: noises, music, people, etc. And, the brain is developing at an extremely fast rate, taking in and processing massive amounts of information. Many children at this age can sit up (approx. 4-6 mths), are trying to crawl (6-10 mths), or are in the pre-walking phase (8-10 mths). By as early as 6 months, many infants attempt simple fine-motor movements: clapping, waving, reaching, and grasping for objects.

- Group activities introduce children to each other and adults.

- Activities set to music introduce rhythm, body awareness, language, and number concepts.

- Parent/Child exercises promote core body strength (torso, arms, legs) and prepare children for crawling and walking.

- Modified, developmentally ap[propriate gymnastics activities develop strength, body and spatial awareness and balance.

- Ball and bubble activities facilitate hand-eye coordination.

Class length is 45 minutes.
